Excellent Texas style burgers with eggs, and chili dogs! Occasionally we are in Roanoke in the middle of the night due to train schedules, plane delays or late concerts. We really appreciate having a reliable great place to get dinner and coffee.

Love going here with my grandfather and people watching the other folks that zip in and out of the joint. Very cool to be able to dine at such an institution. The food hasn’t changed one bit over the years, so meter your expectations. If you’re a fan of simple good and greasy, this is for you.

A real old fashioned experience that can’t be missed if you’re in the downtown Roanoke area. Everything is under 5. Large cheeseburger was delicious. .Chili dogs looked promising and breakfast is also served. Cash only, and only 10 barstools so be ready for it! It’s awesome!

I had the best time here waiting for my carry out order! My cousin (an old pro at this) took care of ordering since she is fluent in TT lingo. We ordered a hot dog, a bowl of chili, a cheesy western, 2 cheeseburgers and 2 hamburgers on small buns (a patron told us about the burgers on the small bun). The food was great and the employees are characters!! We had as much fun interacting with the patrons and employees as we did eating the food! I will never be able to visit Roanoke without stopping at Texas Tavern!

I found this place because George Motz has it in his book "Hamburger America" and it was perfect. The place is small with a lunch counter. The guy on the grill was patient and friendly. Definitely get the Cheesy Western. I also got a hotdog with chili and kraut. The atmosphere is incredible and you can see how this place gets slammed with the walk-up window after the bars close. Would totally stop in here if I was nearby.
